Hiking Trails

One of the most popular activities among our guests is hiking. There is simply no better way to stretch your legs, get your pet outside for some exercise (we offer pet friendly North Carolina cabin rentals close in to Asheville), than hiking, and our location is filled with places to explore and safe, fun trails. No matter your hiking level or ability, you can get outside and enjoy some hiking on your trip. We’ve included a bit about some of the more popular hikes that are convenient to our North Carolina cabin rentals.

Crabtree Falls Loop Trail

This moderate loop trail is filled with some hills and a few small obstacles. It’s an easy trail and great because it is a loop trail. You cannot get lost! Explore this 2.5 miles long trail that takes you on a gorgeous route filled with views of meadows, and it passes by a 70-foot waterfall, Crabtree Falls. You can find the route, by traveling down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Milepost 339.5 and park at the Visitor’s Center.

Mount Mitchell Trail

This particular Mount Mitchell hiking trail is the most difficult, and more often, hikers hike a portion of it, rather than try and make the entire length all in one trip. It begins along the Toe River and continues over 5.5 miles of tough elevation gains. Hikers climb some 3,600 feet over the course of the entire trail. If you are tough enough to make it all the way to the end of the trail, you’ll be rewarded at the summit of Mount Mitchell with some of the most amazing views you’ll find along the east coast.

Setrock Creek Falls Trail

Setrock Creek Falls is a waterfall located in the Pisgah National Forest right at the bottom of majestic Mount Mitchell. You hike about half a mile and are rewarded with this hidden gem of a waterfall. This locale is very picturesque making it a popular spot for hikers and photo journalists. Each season creates a new and gorgeous landscape. The waterfall itself cascades some 75-feet. To visit the falls and hike the Setrock Creek Falls trail head down NC Highway 80 (also known as Mount Mitchell Scenic Byway) and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway. Setrock Creek Falls Trail is about 10 miles from Crabtree Falls.

River Loop Trail

This 3.5 mile moderate hiking trail is easily accessible from all of our North Carolina cabin rentals located in Burnsville, North Carolina. It’d be a short quick trip over to the trailhead. Sights along the way include river views. Our NC mountain vacation rentals are pet friendly, and this is a trail that you can bring along your best hiking buddy. All pets must be kept on a leash on the trail.

Roaring Fork Falls Trail

Want to see a gorgeous waterfall view? Hike the half mile hike to the waterfall, which is mostly flat along a forest service access road to a nice cascading waterfall that falls about 100 feet. This waterfall hike is about 7 miles from Crabtree Falls, if you are planning to hike that trail, this one is also worth checking out. You’ll find it along the Mt. Michell Scenic Byway, about 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, at the base of Mount Mitchell (it’s right next to the Mount Mitchell Golf Club).

Black Mountain Crest Trail

The Black Mountain crest trail is a popular 10.9-mile hiking trail that is recommended for more adventurous hikers. The trail goes from point to point, beginning at Bowlens Creek Road, and it ends at the parking lot located atop Mount Mitchell at the summit.
